-

ST JOHNSTONE boss To m m y W r i g h t has described forward Steven MacLean as “a big player for us”.

As Saints prepare to face Rangers at home on Friday night, Tommy spoke about the impact the ex-Rangers man has on the McDiarmid Park side.

Tommy commented:“Day in day out in games and in training, Steven gives 100%.

“He i s an underrated player but his goals, assists and general play mean he is an important part of what we do.”

Steven i s Saints’ top scorer in the Premiership with 41 goals and he will be attempting to add to that goals record on Friday.

Not in the Perth men’s squad will be banned right-back Richard Foster and forward Michael O’Halloran.

Michael has recovered from the ankle injury which kept him out of the win over Hamilton and t he l oss against Aberdeen but he is on loan from Rangers and can’t play against his parent club.

He will, however, be available to face Hearts at Murrayfield a week on Saturday.

David Wotherspoon and Denny Johnstone received knocks in the Dave Mackay testimonial match against Dundee but will be OK to face Rangers.

Blair Alston could also be included in the squad.

The ex-Falkirk midfield man has been out injured for around a month but has recovered and could be on the substitutes bench.

To m my a d d e d : “I ’ m looking f orward t o t he Rangers match.

“There will be a great atmosphere, a big crowd, and it is good to get back playing after the break for international matches.

“I’m looking for a better performance and for us to cut out the individual errors which have proved so costly.”
