DUNDEE’S annual bonfire and fireworks display event will return on Guy Fawkes night.

The sky above Tayside will light up on November 5 for the annual celebration, with the city council confirming displays for Lochee Park and Baxter Park.

There will be a bonfire lit and a grand fireworks display at each venue.

Both family-friendly events are scheduled to get under way at around 6pm.

In past years, thousands of spectators have gathered to watch the displays, which have all had different themes.

Irene Shearer, chair of Friends of Baxter Park, urged people to attend the events.

However, she warned of folk bringing along their own fireworks.

She added: “The displays are a great family event.

“It is always very busy but it is also a very safe event.

“It is a controlled and safe fireworks display, so I would really urge any members of the public to please not bring your own fireworks to the event.

“There has been a lot of money spent on the display, so there really is no need for anyone to bring any more along. Just come along and enjoy the show.”

Arbroath is set for its third community-funded and organised fireworks display on November 5.

The event is being held at RM Condor military base, with gates opening at 5.45pm.

A bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks display is due to begin at 6.40pm.

There will also be a display at Perth’s South Inch Park on Bonfire Night with live music and a funfair alongside traditional food stalls.

The Perth display begins at 6.30pm with the public being asked not to bring animals.
