Eight just great for St James

-

IN the Dundee Saturday Morning League (DSMFL) Trident Trophies Second Division, St James stretched their lead at the top and continued with their 100% win record with an 8-2 success over Monifieth Tayside.

Ferry Mechanics pulled off the result of the day with a 4-3 win over FC Menzieshill which saw them go into the automatic promotion spot ahead of Menzieshill.

Cairdy Thistle’s 3-1 win over Cannon Fodder puts them into second spot in the table.

Club 83’s 4-0 win over The Beat takes them into mid-table while the latter are rooted to the foot and pointless after 10 games.

Results haven’t followed decent shows from The Beat.

DK Raiders are in the other relegation spot after a 5-3 defeat to Charleston, who go three points clear of the relegation zone.

The division looks extremely competitive and is hard to call at the top.

FC Boukir’s 13-0 win over Kelso puts them top on goal difference though they also have a game in hand on Charlie’s Accies, who are in second despite losing 5-2 to Dundee City.

Bank St Athletic are in the other automatic promotion slot after an 8-1 win over Clark’s FC while Cleppy Socials 4-3 win over Fife Thistle B puts them two points away from the promotion spots.

Sidlaw Albion are much improved on last season.

Their 4-3 win over Boars Rock means they now have three victories under their belt. The victory stops a run of defeats.

Stobswell Athletic’s 1-1 draw against Occidental keeps them a point ahead of Sidlaw Albion and in mid-table.

This weekend sees nine DSMFL sides kick off in the opening round of the Direct Soccer sponsored North of Tay Cup, which sees a record 27 entries from the Saturday Morning League this year in the 76-team pot for the region’s most prestigious tournament.

Riverside CSC have the tie of the round against Midlands high flyers Menzieshill AFC who they put out of the competition last year in the quarter-finals.

Doc’s Hibernia also have a tricky tie against Carnoustie Panmure, while Bank Street Athletic are away to Kinross.

There are three allDSMFL early morning kick-offs at the University.

Occidental have it all to do against Hilltown Hotspurs.

Two other Premier teams face off against Second Division teams when Dryburgh CC face FC Boukir at home and Hawkhill clash with Dundee City.
