Woman assaulted outside takeaway
POLICE in Dundee are hunting a man who threw a woman to the ground in an unprovoked city centre attack.
An investigation was launched following reports that the woman was assaulted outside the Marco Polo takeaway in Hawkhill.
It is understood the man approached the woman, who is in her twenties, from behind and wrestled her to the ground.
The incident is said to have been witnessed by a group of women who went to the assistance of the victim in the aftermath of the attack.
The assailant, who was unknown to the victim, is then said to have fled from the scene.
It is understood that the woman involved was not seriously injured – although she is said to have been “shaken up” by the incident.
She left the scene in a taxi, after being helped by the witnesses, and reported the assault to the police.
Police Scotland today appealed for information to help them trace a man aged about 19 or 20.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police Scotland is making i nquiries after a woman was assaulted at 3.30am on October 11 in the Hawkhill area of Dundee.
“Officers are keen to trace a man about 19-20 years old. “He is described as being 5ft 8in, of slim build, wearing a dark shirt and jeans.”
The spokesman urged members of the public who witnessed the assault or had information that could help officers apprehend the suspect to get in touch.
He added: “Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tayside Division on 101 quoting reference CR/26732/17.”
Councillor Fraser Macpherson, who represents the West End ward, also called on locals to help police trace the man.
He said: “I am very concerned to learn about this and I would be extremely grateful if any members of the public with any information regarding what happened would contact Police Scotland with that information.
“It is very important that the individual responsible for this is tracked down by the police.
“I would urge the public to assist the police in any way they can.”
