Exhibit date revealed

Dundee City Council’s director of city developmen­t Mike Galloway revealed to the Tele that objects and artefacts for exhibition­s to be held at the museum will be arriving in January.

He was speaking at a special viewing of the museum yesterday, which was attended by the V&A’s architect Kengo Kuma.

Mr Galloway said: “The museum is on schedule and is due to be released in January for the internal fitments to be installed.

“We are not yet ready to reveal the actual opening date but we are confident the museum will be open in plenty time to test the reaction to it from visitors to Dundee during next summer.

“Prior to that there is a lot of work to do.”

He added: “We will need to spend four to six months preparing the

Mr Galloway said there will be four main exhibition galleries at the museum.

He said: “Two of these will be for temporary, travelling exhibition­s and the other two will house a history of Scottish design.”

Mr Galloway said he remained confident that the museum will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.

He said: “Initially we spoke about 500,000 a year coming to the museum.

“We have pushed that back to a more realistic figure of 350,000 but personally I am hoping to exceed that.”

City council leader John Alexander said the museum would be very important for future generation­s of Dundonians.

He said: “My vision is not just that this will put Dundee on the map but that all maps will lead to Dundee as a result of the V&A.”

THE first exhibits to go on show at Dundee’s V&A museum are due to arrive on site early next year.
