-

AMY Henderson’s hattrick of headers helped Jeanfield Swifts Ladies to a 5-0 win over East Fife in their latest Scottish Building Society SWPL 2 match.

The central defender, who is in her first season with the club, scored twice in the first half from corners delivered by Rachel Todd in the 23rd and 42nd minutes.

Amy nearly got her hat-trick from a superb overhead kick but it would be another header that netted the first hat-trick of her career.

Rachel managed a hat-trick of assists for Amy, when, in the 80th minute, she delivered a ball into the box which deceived the keeper, hitting the junction of post and bar. It rebounded to allow Amy a header into an empty net from a couple of yards out.

Amy’s third goal was Jeanfield’s fifth of the day.

Jeanfield’s other counters came from an own goal and a superb Jade McDonald strike.

In the 57th minute, a throw out by the keeper didn’t reach its target, Niamh Irvine intercepted and did well to get the ball down the right-hand side to deliver a cross which was turned home by an East Fife defender.

Captain McDonald scored in the 75th minute with a strike from 22 yards.

With only three games left, Jeanfield are i n fourth place, just three points off third.

Amy said: “I thought the team’s showing was one of the best so far this season.

“We were prepared, were comfortable on the ball and trusted each other.

“I have never scored a hat-trick before and, for them all to be headers, is special.

“Scoring isn’t one of my strengths. I was shocked every time one of my headers went in.”
