Triple boost for United boss Ray

- BY TOM DUTHIE AND GEORGE CRAN

Manager Ray McKinnon has confirmed midfielder Jordie Briels will make the squad.

The Dutchman limped off at Livingston last weekend before half-time.

A hip problem that’s dogged him for the past few weeks flared up, but he’s responded to treatment and is set to be in his usual place against the Caley Jags.

And experienced defender Paul Quinn will return to first-team duty a week earlier than expected.

Quinn has been sidelined since last month after a heart murmur that was a side effect of a infected tooth.

He wasn’t expected back until the trip to Dumbarton on Saturday week but showed up well when he got 90 minutes for the Development team at Hamilton on Tuesday night.

Scott Fraser, meanwhile, has declared himself fit after the latest problems with the foot he broke back in March.

The midfielder last appeared for the Tangerines in a 1-1 draw with Dumbarton six weeks ago.

He was replaced in that one with pain in his previously broken foot.

It emerged that it was the screw inserted in his foot that was causing the problem.

The screw was “clicking” against the bone and leaving Fraser in plenty of pain.

That saw medical staff prescribe weeks of rest to allow the problem to heal.

Now, though, Fraser is back in training and ready to face Inverness on Saturday.

He said: “Obviously it’s the same one I broke towards the end of last season.

“With getting a screw put in it, the screwhead is still slightly out of it and it hasn’t healed around that.

“Every time I feel pain, it’s that clicking against a bit of bone and that’s why I’ve been in so much pain when trying to play.

“I spoke to the manager and the doctors and they all agreed it was better to take three or four weeks to rest it and since being back training on Monday, touch wood, I’ve not felt anything so far.

“Hopefully, that’s just what I needed.

“I did speak about getting the screw out but the doctor said that probably wasn’t the best thing for me long-term because it could break again easily.”

DUNDEE United have been handed a triple fitness boost for Saturday’s clash with Inverness Caley Thistle.
