Kerr ‘itching’ to get back into line-up

- BY GEORGE CRAN

CAMMY Kerr is “itching” to get back in the Dundee line-up but has warned his team-mates it’d be naive to write off winless Partick, whether he’s among them or watching on from the sidelines.

Kerr has found himself out of the Dark Blues’ starting XI for the past two matches, a 2-1 win over Hearts and a credible 1-0 loss at Celtic.

That’s something the 22-year-old is determined to change as soon as he possibly can but knows it’s an experience, while unwelcome, that he can learn from.

He said: “It’s frustrating because I’ve been in for such a long time and I feel I’m still improving.

“To come out of the team I suppose makes you mentally stronger and makes you realise you have to keep working hard all the time.

“Everyone is the same — when you’re not in the team you still want the team to do well but you are itching to get back in.

“However, I just need to keep plugging away in training, work hard and do extra, whatever it may be, to get back in.

“Hopefully, that’s going to happen sooner rather than later.

“For every position t here is competition and everyone is vying for their place.

“No matter what you’ve done, you can be out of the team because there’s that many boys who can come in.”

That sort of competition is what manager Neil McCann has been searching for so he can adapt his side to different situations, like playing a back three in the past two matches.

“The manager just said it’s nothing against how I’ve done but to just keep working, plugging away.

“It happened to me last year as well when I found myself out of the team for the Hearts and St Johnstone games and it ate away at me a wee bit.

“It probably affected me and I was down too much but it’s about learning from those things.”

Kerr watched on from the sidelines last weekend as the Dark Blues battled well at Parkhead, only to miss
