Death probe cops in hospital bin search
POLICE have been searching through bags of hospital waste in a bid to find a woman’s clothes as part of a probe into her death.
The 50-year-old was found with serious head injuries at a house in Burnside Walk, Lochee, on Tuesday night after a suspected fall and taken to Ninewells Hospital (right) by ambulance.
She died the next day and her death is being treated as “unexplained”.
Officers are now trying to track down her clothes, which were taken off and disposed of as she received treatment at the hospital.
Police have been at a waste management facility within the grounds of Ninewells — where dozens of bags of clinical waste are piled up — for the last two days in an attempt to locate the garments.
One NHS worker, who didn’t want to be named, told the Tele: “I saw one police car there — they had cones and police tape out. They appeared to guarding the orange bags and they were going back and forth. It’s the first time I’ve seen anything like this here.”
Another unnamed hospital worker said: “I have heard that there was an incident in the hospital and the police are now here looking for evidence.
“I came in yesterday morning and the police were looking through the rubbish bags.”
A source said there was no suggestion anyone had made an error in disposing of the clothes.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at an address in Dundee on Tuesday after a 50-year-old woman was found with head injuries.
“She was taken to hospital for treatment, where she sadly died on Wednesday.
“Her death is being treated as unexplained and officers are carrying out inquiries.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 4.02pm on Tuesday to attend an incident at an address on Burnside Walk.
“We dispatched one ambulance and a paramedic response unit to the scene. One female patient in her fifties was taken to Ninewells Hospital.”
