- BY LINDsEY HAMILToN

A full programme of events has been planned for the festivities, which will run from November 25December 9.

Now in its 17th year, the fortnight will include carol singing, a bestdressed window competition and a children’s craft event.

West End councillor Fraser Macpherson, one of the event’s organisers, said there would be more events than ever this year, as the area continues its economic regeneration.

Mr Macpherson added: “The economic development of the West End is of significant importance at the moment.

“Myself, the other local councillors and community groups have all been working hard to promote the West End.

“With that in mind, we have planned

He said two sets of lights would brighten up the winter sky over the West End, at Seabraes and at St John’s Church. He added: “Dundee’s Lord Provost Ian Borthwick has agreed to switch on the lights this year and there will be lots of other events during the evening with pipe bands, choirs singing and lots of other guest artists.

“There will also be lots of events to look forward to throughout the twoweek period.

“There’s going to be winter fairs, craft fairs, and a children’s craft event on December 9, where children will be able to create lots of exciting crafts using different materials.

“There’s going to be carol singing, a shoppers prize draw, a best-dressedshop window competition and a window-spotting competition for the children.

“This is going to be a great example of the people across the West End coming together to create a major Christmas event which includes everyone in the area.”

ORGANISERS of the West End Christmas Fortnight today declared this year’s event was going to be the biggest yet.
