Evening Telegraph (First Edition)

Four-hour car charge must make a profit

-

I READ the article in the Tele about hospital parking concerns at Ninewells.

The last part of the article has an incorrect statement. It states prices are to rise 10p to £2.20 from November 1 — which is wrong as the charge is currently set at £2.20.

These charges are already too high and should be scrapped. The Scottish Government should be doing more to rectify the situation, as the contract with Indigo, which manages the car park, is to run to 2028 according to the 30-year contract agreed in 1998.

I’d like to know the profit being made from each parking bay in the short stay car parks.

Each car owner pays the £2.20 charge for up to four hours and some are only on site for up to one hour, depending why they are there.

I have also noticed no actual maintenance being carried out on site, especially in the disabled designated area as road markings have not been repainted for a number of years.

Exactly where are monies from parking charges going to? Directors’ bonuses I expect.

The tickets do not even have a sticker on them to stick to the windscreen anymore — another cost-saving initiative by Indigo.

If placed on the dashboard, the ticket may blow off or turn over when the door is closed, causing a penalty notice to be issued.

I guarantee many people will agree with me.
