LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE — CANNING

-

MARTIN Canning has told his young Hamilton side it is time they started seeing the bigger picture.

The Accies boss was frustrated to see his side lose their sixth straight game away to Ross County on Saturday.

That defeat leaves Canning’s team just a point off bottom spot ahead of hosting basement boys Partick Thistle tonight.

Canning has been encouraged by some of his side’s individual displays but admits his inexperienced players need to function more as a unit.

H e s a i d : “We ’r e a l l disappointed. We’ve lost the last four games 2-1 and have been ahead in three of them. But these games are decided on fine margins.

“There’s probably a bit of naivety in the side which is costing us right now.

“This club is obviously big on bringing through young players and on Saturday we had eight players 23 or under and we made a couple of naive mistakes.

“We’re not defending badly in general as sides aren’t creating lots of chances against us. But the goals are almost coming from nowhere and that’s down to lapses in concentration.

“If we had that bit more experience we’d be able to see the danger coming.

“We’ve got some good young defenders and they are doing their own job well. But they are focusing too much on themselves and not taking themselves out to look at the bigger picture.”
