Mercury could dip close to freezing

- BY AMY HALL

The Met Office has warned Dundonians to brace themselves for a cold snap.

So far, the lowest temperature this side of summer has been 1.5C, which was recorded on October 1.

A spokesman for the Met Office said the cooler weather will arrive tomorrow when there will be lows of 7C.

It is due to be cloudy with patchy, light rain throughout the day, while in the evening temperatures are expected to drop to around 5C.

The spokesman said: “The cold temperatures come about due to a combination of different positions of pressure.

“With high pressure coming from the west and low coming from the east, it draws the cold winds north.

“This cold weather is a result of the various pressure systems, so when the systems interact, they encourage this northerly flow.” The weather will be at its coldest on Sunday, with highs of 6C.

The Met Office said cold northerly winds and isolated showers are expected throughout the day.

The spokesman added: “Luckily the cold weather does not seem to be too long-lived. “Locals should feel the temperature getting milder throughout Monday although there is some rain forecast.

“We are forecasting it to be around 1C on Sunday, however, we reckon it could end up being a little chillier.”

The weekend will also see winds pick up across Tayside, described as “very breezy” by the Met Office.

Luckily for those still not ready for winter, the cold is not due to stick around for too long.

On Monday, te mperatures will gradually get milder throughout the day.

Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge urged people to take precautions and look out for updated forecasts.

Mr Madge said: “We are approaching the season where conditions are turning.

“But people should also be prepared for nice weather.

“We know it will be breezy over the weekend, so be prepared for the conditions.”

For guisers wondering what weather to expect for their exploits on Halloween, the temperature is set to peak at around 13C.

DUNDEE could be set for its coldest night of the season this weekend — with the mercury set to plummet to as low as 1C on Sunday.
