Jeanfield’s late show seals points

-

JEANFIELD Swifts Ladies made the long trip north to Maud to face Buchan Ladies in their Scottish Building Society SWPL2 match.

And the Perth girls came home with all three points thanks to a 93rdminute winner.

Conditions were poor, with the heavy rain and strong wind making the already-soft ground harder going when it came to getting the ball down and passing.

Ellie May Cowie thought she had broken the deadlock but her shot hit t he side netting, Rachel Todd went agonisingly close and Hannah Clark missed with a header.

The bar saved Buchan from a Clark shot and, when the keeper parried an effort against her own player, the ball looked goalbound until a post came to the home side’s rescue.

In the third minute of stoppage time, however, Jeanfield finally got their reward.

Todd floated in a great ball that was headed home by Amy Henderson, ricocheting off the head of Rhee Tweedie as it crossed the line.

Jeanfield coach Jason McCrindle said: “To have 20 players make a five-six hour round trip for the game tells you everything you need to know about the team.

“The way we played, kept possession, and the chances we created was great to watch. The players deserve huge credit to keep going and have the belief the goal was going to come.”
