Council bid to extend projects
A PAIR of projects backed by Dundee City Council have highlighted its commitment to improving the housing choice in the city.
The council is looking to extend the empty homes officer project and t o establish a private landlord support officer post.
Both projects are making a positive impact in the city by improving standards across the Private Rented Sector (PRS) and by bringing more empty homes back into residential use.
Neighbourhood services convener Kevin Cordell said: “We are working to target those landlords who are inexperienced or unaware of the vast range of legislation affecting the sector.”
Demand on the project remains high, with more than 700 cases dealt with thus far.
He said: “It’s important we continue with this project, we’ve found one-toone assistance with landlords remains by far the most valued and constructive way to help them deal with the ongoing legislative change.
“We also need to work to target landlords operating ‘under the radar’ by educating vulnerable tenants to understand the minimum standards they should receive.”
Proposals set before the neighbourhood services committee outline the continuation of the empty homes officer project between Dundee City Council and Angus Council.
The neighbourhood services committee meets on Monday.
