Trial for betting shop incident man
A MAN is to stand trial after denying charges of assault and attempting to rob a Dundee betting shop.
James Gorrie, 42, denies threatening a woman and brandishing a bottle at Ladbrokes, Strathmartine Road, on August 29 last year.
It is also alleged that he assaulted a taxi driver and struggled with five police officers on the same day.
Gorrie is facing a four-charge indictment at the High Court in Edinburgh.
He denies that during a taxi journey, at Lauderdale Avenue, St Leonard Place, Strathmartine Road and elsewhere in Dundee, he assaulted taxi driver James McCartney.
Gorrie denies striking Mr McCartney on the head and brandishing a bottle at him before trying to strike him with the bottle and uttering threats of violence.
At Ladbrokes, Gorrie allegedly tried to rob worker Paula Lyttle, by shouting, and acting in an aggressive and threatening manner towards her and a customer there.
He allegedly threatened to rob her before brandishing a bottle at her, pointing a bottle at her and repeatedly striking a bottle on the counter there.
This was before he allegedly opened a door repeatedly and shouted into the street.
Thereafter, Gorrie allegedly resisted, obstructed or hindered five police officers.
He denies acting in an aggressive manner towards PCs Sean McCabe, Steven Moir, Philip Paton, Ryan Williams and Alastair Ogilivie, as well as repeatedly refusing to put down a glass bottle when asked to do so.
Gorrie allegedly lunged at PC McCabe with a bottle, as well as allegedly struggling violently with the officers.
He is further accused of being in possession of cocaine, a Class A drug, during a taxi journey in Lauderdale Avenue, St Leonard Place, Strathmartine Road, and at police headquarters in West Bell Street.
In July, Gorrie pleaded not guilty to all charges during his preliminary hearing.
He is scheduled to stand trial at the High Court in Edinburgh on November 20.
