Thunder thumped by Tigers

-

DUNDEE Tigers recorded a sensational 14-2 home win over Kilmarnock Thunder in the Scottish National Ice Hockey League.

Paul Guilcher was their main marksman with four goals, with Grant Reekie grabbing a hat-trick and Kevin Turnbull and Scott Marr netting twice each. Single strikes came from Ryan Amos, Mark McLeod and Robbie Barnett.

Marcus Murdoch was on the mark twice for Thunder.

Tigers’ Ian Carstairs said: “While the scoreline looks very impressive, we didn’t have this game all our own way.

“After a very quick goal by us in the first period — we netted in eight seconds — we seemed to sit back and Thunder had the best of the opening play.

“We settled into things as the period progressed and, after that, we were pretty comfortable.

“We came to life towards the end of the second period and went on a scoring spree that saw us net five goals in as many minutes.

“That effectively killed off the game as a competition.

“Disappointingly, we dropped concentration at the start of the last period and lost a couple of goals.

“However, we finished strongly so can’t be too tough on ourselves.

“Credit has to go to Thunder for their tenacity. They never gave up.

“They’re a young squad and didn’t give up all night.

“If they can add a couple of experienced heads, they’ll pick up points as the season progresses. I feel they can do that.”
