McManus exhibition announced

-

MCMANUS Galleries has announced the details of its latest exhibition.

To coincide with the museum’s popular Sense of Place series, the McManus will again reintroduce its Winter Works on Paper display.

The exhibition is drawn from Dundee’s collection of watercolours.

The new display at the McManus considers how Scottish artists used watercolour to paint the Scottish landscape.

Included are works by Horatio McCulloch, William McTaggart, Sam Bough and William Leitch.

During the 19th Century, both landscape painting, a s a s u b j e c t m a t t e r, and the medium of watercolour came i nto their own.

In addition, Queen Victoria’s interest in watercolour did much to promote the art on both a professional and amateur level.

The Royal Academy and Royal Scottish Academy are to include watercolours i n t heir summer exhibitions.

The free exhibition at the McManus runs until Sunday January 28.

Sense of Place focuses on how Scottish artists have represented t he world around them.

Drawn from Dundee’s nationally significant fine art collection, the display focuses primarily on landscape painting.
