Animal charity holds Staffie Awareness Week

-

THE Scottish SPCA is celebrating its annual Staffie Awareness Week.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity is inviting people along to its Petterden-based centre to meet the Staffies in its care to see how affectionate and lovable they are.

Angus, Fife and Tayside animal rescue and rehoming centre manager Elliot Hay said: “Last year we rehomed more Staffies than any other breed but we’re always looking to do more to raise awareness of the breed.

“For a bit of fun a few of our Staffies will have bandanas on, and we’re encouraging anyone with any questions about rehoming to have a chat with a member of staff about how wonderful Staffies are.”

Frazer the Staffie was rehomed about seven years ago by one of the charity’s animal rescue officers, Ben Soutar.

Ben said: “We love Frazer’s unusual coat and that he is a very affectionate dog who wants to be with us all the time.

“He reminds me a bit of a cat as he follows the sun around the living room and is happiest when tucked up under a blanket.

“We often call him ‘commando dog’ because he likes to crawl along the ground on his belly with his back legs sprawled out behind him!”

Ben added: “Staffies make amazing pets!”

Anyone who has already rehomed a Staffie from the charity can share their story using the hashtag #StaffieEverAfter on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Those i nterested i n giving a Staffie a new home can visit the Scottish SPCA website at scottishspca. org or call their local centre on 03000 999 999.

Staffie Awareness Week runs until Sunday.
