New vision for former college
THERE has already been one false start, but fresh proposals to breathe new life into one of the city’s most prominent buildings have been tabled and hopes are high that this time the developer’s vision will become a reality (see pages 4&5).
Flats, a cinema, cafe and laundrette are all part of the masterplan to revamp the former Dundee College Campus at Constitution Road.
The complex is almost half a century old and closed its doors in 2011, but since then has become a target for vandals.
During its decades as a seat of learning, thousands of students passed through its doors.
And it is now on the verge of being transformed into scores of homes and vital visitor accommodation at a time when the city is readying itself to welcome an influx of tourists attracted by the V&A museum.
Given the building’s importance to the city over the years and its location, it would be nice to think that the latest plans to revitalise it will not end up left on the starting blocks.
