Ap­peal for vol­un­teer grit­ters

PERTH and Kin­ross Coun­cil is seek­ing vol­un­teers to grit sec­tions of foot­ways over the win­ter months.

Vol­un­teers will be asked to clear pave­ments with a push-along spreader.

Any­one who wants to help their com­mu­nity and is fit enough to use the equip­ment is en­cour­aged to come for­ward.

The spreader and a salt sup­ply will be pro­vided, along with full train­ing and guid­ance.

Vol­un­teers won’t be ex­pected t o be out in se­vere weather con­di­tions and no li­a­bil­ity will be placed on them, pro­vided they act i n ac­cor­dance with the guid­ance.

Coun­cil leader Ian Camp­bell said: “I would ask our res­i­dents to con­sider vol­un­teer­ing to help with the spread­ers, which are be­ing made avail­able.

“The re­spon­si­bil­ity for the roads and foot­path net­work is huge and any as­sis­tance that can be pro­vided by the lo­cal com­mu­nity is al­ways wel­come.”
