Maths target missed

-

MORE than half of the target number of training places for maths teachers are empty, new figures have revealed.

There are 1,126 people in Scotland currently studying to become secondary school teachers — 70% of the overall intake target set by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) for 2017-18.

The SFC set the goal of recruiting 237 student maths teachers, but the figures show there are only 112 such students, 47% of the target number.
