Police probe theft of mobility scooter

A MAN has hit out after his mobility scooter was swiped by thieves.

Garry Millar is unable to walk the smallest of distances without aids due to suffering with cirrhosis of the liver and a multitude of other conditions.

He was given a new lease of life when he purchased a mobility scooter to help him get around.

However, when the 54-year-old took the scooter to his friend’s house in Findowrie Street, Fintry, crooks made off with it while he was inside.

He told the Tele: “I was in my friend’s house and I had parked up outside – stupidly I left the keys in the scooter.

“When I went out to go home I saw that it was gone — I remember thinking that it must have been someone playing a prank on me.

“I realised that someone had taken it and I was completely devastated.

“It has left me unable to go out to the shops.

“I am having to rely on my mates and my mum coming and helping me.

“A mobility scooter is for one thing — whoever took it knew that and did it anyway. I can’t believe that someone would do that to someone.

“I paid £300 for it, there is no way that I can afford to buy another one.

“I am just totally devastated that this kind of thing would happen.

“I know that I shouldn’t have left the keys in it but you just wouldn’t expect someone to take it.”

Garry — who also lives in Fintry — alerted police to the theft and an investigation has been launched.

He said the scooter, which is electrically-powered, was fully charged prior to him taking it out.

He thinks that the charge will have run out by now — rendering the scooter “useless”.

He added: “It won’t have charge left in it now, the charger is still at my house.

“It won’t be worth anything to anyone now.

“Hopefully I get it back — I don’t know what I am going to do.”

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm it is dealing with the reported theft of a blue threewheeled mobility scooter from outside a house in Findowrie Street, Dundee, about 3pm on November 10.

“If anyone has any information which can help our inquiry, especially in finding the mobility scooter, please call 101 or speak to any police officer. Our reference is CR/29749/17.”
