Prolific shoplifter breaches order

RYAN Ogilvie, 29, of Balunie Drive, admitted breaching a restrictio­n of liberty order by committing six further offences.

He admitted at Dundee Sheriff Court that on August 1, at Tesco Express, Brook Street, Broughty Ferry, he stole alcohol; on September 16, at Iceland, Campfield Square, he stole food items; on October 21, at KFC in Tom Johnstone Road, he stole a pedal bicycle; on November 11 at MS News, Camphill Square, he stole another pedal bicycle and on the same date at Co-op i n Claypotts Road, he stole food items. Ogilvie further admitted that on the same date, at the same place, he assaulted staff member Shanice Lavery and threw bananas at her.

The restrictio­n of liberty order had been imposed after he committed a catalogue of offences, including stealing electricit­y, damaging a meter by inserting a wire and bypassing the meter and preventing the meter from registerin­g the quantity of electricit­y supplied at a flat in Aboyne Avenue. He had further admitted taking and driving away a car from Balerno Street and driving without a licence or insurance, shopliftin­g, assaulting an employee of Marks & Spencer in Seagate by throwing a bicycle at him, striking him on the body and breaching the peace in Aboyne Avenue in August.

Sentence was deferred until November 16.
