Drivers putting lives in danger
THERE are occasions when the sheer stupidity of some motorists really does defy belief (see page 15).
There is a temporary pedestrianised zone in place at St Mary’s RC Primary for a very good reason — to protect pupils and parents walking them to and from classes.
The restriction lasts a total of 75 minutes each day, and it’s not unreasonable to expect drivers to use alternative routes when youngsters are milling about before and after lessons.
But some seem to think the safety measures do not apply to them and they are being flouted by a selfish and ignorant minority.
Mums and dads whose children attend the primary now fear the situation is a serious — or even fatal — accident waiting to happen.
Some have called for barriers to be installed to close off the road during the times the restriction on vehicles is in force.
Or motorists could just start obeying the rules and stop putting lives at risk.
