Saints hope for deal this week

ST JOHNSTONE hope to tie up the signing of striker David McMillan from Dundalk before the end of the week.

The prolific goalscorer has been on Saints’ radar for some time and he has also been cour ted by Dundee United.

Shamrock Rovers have also expressed an interest in him but it is believed the McDiarmid Park side are at the front of the queue to sign him. He has already been over in Perth for talks.

Meanwhile, another Irish forward who was li nked with Saints, Gary Shaw, has decided to stay at Shamrock Rovers.

A Shamrock statement stated there was interest in the player from outwith the Emerald Isle.

It said: “Gary Shaw is a big player for us and he showed that this year. He scored some important goals at important times of the season.

“He’s led the line really well. His all-round game has come on this year and we believe he’ll only get better and stronger and score more goals next season.

“There was interest in Gary in Ireland and outside of I r e l a n d , s o w e ’r e delighted he’s staying.”

Meanwhile, Callum Hendry, son of ex-Dundee player Colin Hendry, scored a hat-trick as Saints’ Developmen­t League side thumped a Dundee team i n c l u d i n g G a d z h a l o v, Curran,Vincent and Wolters 5-0 at Links Park, Montrose.

Kyle McClean also scored in the first half with Shaun Struthers netting in the second.
