- BY AMY HALL

THE boss of a new kebab shop said he could potentially open further stores in Dundee — if he finds the right location.

German Doner Kebab on the city centre’s Reform Street opened today after being in the pipeline for two years.

Franchisee Akky Hayat told the Tele: “We viewed various locations for the shop across the city, but when we were given the go ahead for the Reform Street site it seemed right.

“We already have plans for a further two stores.

“I am unsure if they will be in Dundee or not but if we could find the right location then I would definitely open in the city again.

“It is just great to bring a food outlet to the city that is a bit out-of-the box for Dundee.

“Our food will provide a different class of doner meat from what locals are used to.

“I am really proud of the store and confident that following the response we have had online, it will be a great success.

“We’re very proud to be the first German Doner Kebab in Scotland. It’s a great honour.

“We’ve l odged an application requesting permission to allow weekend opening until 3am and weekdays until midnight.”

The eatery will employ 20 staff and seat 40 people.

Akky also owns a Subway franchise in Happyhillock and has drafted in area manager Leanne Whyte to also run the kebab store.

Leanne said: “I have been involved with the development for just under a year, so it has been a l ong time coming.

“We had a trial run with a lot of my family and friends to make sure everything would run smoothly.

“All of the staff have been exceptional, so we know we have a good team behind us. We also got our families’ seal of approval on our food.

“When your family likes it, you know you are going in the right direction.”
