Key battles to win for Dark Blues

- BY GEORGE CRAN

DESPITE tasting victory the last time Rangers travelled to Dens Park, Dundee’s recent record against the Glasgow side doesn’t make pretty reading.

February’s fine win over the Gers was the first success by the Dark Blues since a Claudio Caniggia-inspired victory back in 2001.

With this season’s 4-1 at Ibrox already under their belt, Rangers boast a record of 18 wins from the last 21 meetings.

Tonight, though, the Tele is going to completely ignore all that and focus on how Dundee can repeat February’s victory.

Both sides have gone through big changes since then — just five of the Dark Blues’ XI started last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock while only four of the Gers that day played last Saturday.

Dundee, however, will be desperate to rediscover the performance and desire that led them to victory nonetheless.

So, looking at the key battles for tomorrow night at Dens, where can Neil McCann’s men get the upper hand?

Jack Hendry and Josh Meekings v Kenny Miller and Alfredo Morelos

One of Dundee’s biggest issues this season has been giving away cheap goals so it’s vital their central defensive partnership is right on its toes against Miller and Morelos.

The young Colombian is going through a goal drought right now but is always a danger while veteran Miller can never be ignored.

It looks almost certain Dundee’s two will be Hendry and Meekings with both Darren O’Dea and Kerr Waddell missing.

Hendry has easily been the side’s most consistent defender this season but Meekings found himself dropped from the first XI against Killie.

Keeping things tight at the back will be vital if Dundee are to pile on the misery for Rangers.

Marcus Haber v Danny Wilson and Ross McCrorie

Last season’s top scorer Haber has been the preferred choice for manager McCann lately.
