Ross delight as Buddies narrow gap at the top

-

MANAGER Jack Ross was pleased to see St Mirren move to just one point behind Ladbrokes Championship leaders Dundee United with a 2-0 win at Inverness.

Ian MacShane opened the scoring early in the second half from the penalty spot before Iain Vigurs was shown a second yellow card and ordered off with 12 minutes to play.

Gavin Reilly added a second in added time to take all three points back to Paisley, but Ross is aware that major tests lie ahead.

Ross said: “We knew the consequences of not achieving a good result could have been big, we could have dropped several places.

“But that happens in this league, it could all change in midweek and next weekend. What we have done is gone to a really difficult place against a team who is in great form and won, which is brilliant.”

Livingston climbed to third place after a 3-0 win over 10-man Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.

James Penrice opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and Josh Mullin doubled the lead in the 68th minute before Kyle Jacobs was shown a second yellow card. Shaun Byrne made it 3-0 with nine minutes remaining.

Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston was unhappy after his side dropped into fourth place with a 2-2 home draw with Dumbarton.

Tom Walsh opened the scoring in the 51st minute for the Sons before Pars captain Callum Morris equalised four minutes later.

Dimitris Froxylias restored Dumbarton’s lead in the 68th minute but Nicky Clark levelled with two minutes remaining.

Gary Harkins scored the opener for Morton as they won 3-0 at Falkirk.
