Public to have say on Xplore bus services

-

PASSENGERS regularly using a key Dundee bus route will have the chance to speak directly to operators about how to improve the service.

Xplore Dundee is gathering the views of passengers in the north east of the city as it considers possible changes to service 32/33.

The bus operator has arranged a public meeting this Sunday to discuss the options available to improve the punctuality and reliability of the service.

There will be another opportunity to talk to managers on Monday December 4 during Fintry Community Council’s meeting at 6pm in the Finmill Centre.

Xplore managing director Elsie Turbyne said: “Both meetings are open to anyone from the various areas served by the 32/33, including Fintry, Linlathen, Maryfield, Mill o’ Mains, Stobswell and Whitfield.

“Local residents are encouraged to turn up and speak directly to Xplore Dundee’s decision makers.

“Our aim is to find the best way of providing a reliable and punctual bus service which can be accessed by as many areas as possible.

“This might mean making some changes to the existing route or it might be that our passengers would prefer to leave things exactly as they are.

“It’s over to the public to let us know what they think.

“We’re welcoming all feedback and asking people to submit their comments to us at these public meetings or via email, comment cards or by phone.

“We aren’t going to rush into any decisions on this complex issue and want to make sure we take the time to gather a wide range of opinion from all sections of the l ocal community.”

Service 32/33 provides t he main public route between Fintry and Dundee City Centre via Forfar Road.

The service regularly suffers delays due to heavy congestion along the route.

Chairman of Fintry Community Council Ron Neave said:“We welcome this meeting with Xplore because it will give residents the chance to talk about all their issues surrounding the bus routes in Fintry.

“There are still many people not happy with the new bus routes and we are looking forward to talking to the bus company about these.

“I hope that following the meetings we will get a resolution that suits the majority of the people in the area.

“Many people have already said they will be coming along so I’m hoping for a good turnout.

“This has been a problem in the area for some time now and we need to get something done to resolve the issues.”

Sunday’s meeting starts at 2.30pm at Fintry Parish Church.
