ROUND-UP Wildcats likely to make it hard for Menzieshill

-

THE First Division of the National Indoor Hockey League doesn’t start until December 9 when Grove Menzieshill will expect to continue rivalry against Inverleith.

The Second Division starts on Saturday at Perth’s Bell’s Sports Centre with a ninegame session.

Menzieshill II are always one of the top teams in this division.

However, they may find they have a difficult start against Western Wildcats.

On the other hand, they should see off Uddingston and Inverleith II more easily.

Wanderers II have only two games.

It will be interesting to see how they cope at this level after being promoted.

Opponents Falkirk and Carnegie finished fifth and sixth last season.

Division Three is also at Bell’s but in the Coaching Hall. Menzieshill III, Monarchs, Harris and Perthshire are the local teams in action. The one to look out for must be Perthshire.

If they can reproduce anything like their outdoor form, they must have a great chance of promotion.

With half the teams coming from this area, that throws up a number of derbies.

There is only one on Saturday, the early match between Menzieshill III and Monarchs.

Wanderers III are in the Regional League but that does not start until December 9 at Forthbank.

Perthshire II lead the way in the Midlands League with tomorrow’s opponents, Wanderers III, only two points adrift in third place.

A win for the Perth team would strengthen their place at the top. St Andrews expect to defeat Menzieshill IV.

There was only one match of any significance played on Saturday.

The 2-2 draw between Edinburgh University and Uddingston did neither any favours.

Pete Knight put Edinburgh ahead and Steven Percy equalised. Brad Hughes then fired Uddingston into the lead but Kevin Wong then tied the score.

Edinburgh have moved one point ahead of Dundee Wanderers in fifth place.

Uddingston remain in the bottom four with Wanderers three points ahead of that group.

Last weekend was virtually blank for the women’s outdoor game but the top flight of the indoor programme begins on Sunday.

Dundee Wanderers and Grove Menzieshill have been the top two teams for some time and will hope to remain so.

There’s an intriguing encounter between Western and Wanderers at 1.50pm followed by another between Edinburgh University and Grove at 2.45pm.

The second teams of both Dundee clubs are in Division Two which starts in the Bell’s Coaching Hall on Sunday.
