Rangers win just the start for Deacon

- BY GEORGE CRAN

FRIDAY night’s victory over Rangers is just the start for Dundee, according to winger Roarie Deacon.

And the former Arsenal kid is backing his team to repeat the “fight, belief, determination” that saw them to victory over the Gers, starting this Saturday in the Highlands.

The three points picked up at Dens moved the Dark Blues up to 11th spot in the Premiership table and they can overtake this weekend’s opponents Ross County with a two-goal victory.

Deacon said: “Ross County will be a tough game but we are a great team and we showed that on Friday.

“We showed fight, belief, determination, everything — and we need to take that into Saturday.

“The league is very, very tight and a couple of wins in a row with teams around you not picking up maximum points, you can propel yourself up the table — we hope to do that in the games coming up.”

Friday’s victory brought Dundee’s run of six games without a win to an end. The message coming out of Dens Park throughout that run has been that the results would come if they kept at their gameplan.

Words, though, mean nothing without actions to back them up and Deacon is delighted they finally matched this statement against the Ibrox side.

He said: “It was a fantastic win that’s been on the cards — we’ve been saying that for a long time now we needed to get another win under our belts.

“We’ve been playing fantastically well as a team and just had to convert our possession and dominance in games into three points — on Friday we did that, even though we didn’t have the ball for long periods in the second half.

“We stayed compact as a team, they couldn’t break us down and, thankfully, Marko (Mark O’Hara) grabbed two goals for us.

“We kept saying it was coming but you have to keep the belief and not get downhearted.

“With the results, obviously, we weren’t in a great position in the league but, hopefully, this is the turning point.
