Family fun as Angus gets set for Christmas

A BIG crowd is expected in Forfar tonight when the town’s Christmas lights will fill the night sky with colour.

Down at The Cross you will see Mrs Claus and the elves, along with Chase and Skye, from Paw Patrol.

The proceeding­s start at 6pm with Santa arriving at 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, Arbroath’s event will take place at Kirk Square tomorrow, from 6pm-8pm, with Santa arriving at 7.30pm.

There will be music by Radio North Angus, a funfair and performanc­es from acts such as Limelight, Showcase the Street and Arbroath Pipe Band. Children can bring along their letters for Santa and there will also be a mailbox on the night at A J Beedie Jewellers in High Street.

There’s also a host of activities in Brechin on Saturday, where the Christmas in the City programme will see Santa’s grotto set up in the townhouse for children to visit and get a present from 10am-2pm. Entry to the grotto is £2 per child.

Another festive stop in the town is the Northern Hotel, for a children’s fun afternoon where parents can enjoy a tea or coffee while the kids run wild on toys and bouncy castles, from noon-4pm.

Before coming to St Ninian’s Square, make sure you take part in the Christmas Carol Hunt. Keep a look out for the pink signs in local shops windows to find each of the 22 hidden letters of a chosen carol.

Also keep an eye on the shop window displays, as there will be a poll on Facebook for to choose the winning shop, which will receive the “Best Window Display” trophy.

There’s also a craft fair at Gardner Memorial Church, from 10am-3pm. Just as this event finishes, people will be gathering in St Ninian’s Square to watch performanc­es by Brechin Brass Band, Kelsey Logan, Gardner Steel Drum Band, a local choir and a short skit by combined production members.

Elsewhere, there are also festive fun weekends lined up at Monikie Country Park for the next three weeks, which will include a Santa’s grotto, market stalls, Christmas decoration workshops, family trails through the woods, face painters, festive food in Cafe Byzantium and the Grinch’s grotto.

All through the festive season there will be a host of events in Angus, so keep your eyes peeled and remember to wrap up warm — because it’s cold out there!
