‘Edje’ set to come in for Tangerines

- By TOM DUTHIE

DUNDEE United will make one enforced change as they look to extend their unbeaten Championship run to five games when Dunfermline visit Tannadice tomorrow.

Defensive organiser Tam Scobbie is suspended after his injury-time red card at Brechin last weekend.

Paul Quinn and William Edjenguele are the candidates to take over in heart of the defence, with Edjenguele favourite to return to the league starting line-up for the first time in five games.

He got a run-out in the Irn-Bru Cup defeat at the hands of Crusaders and then had another 90 minutes for the U/20s draw with Hibs last week.

His performance in that game earned praise from gaffer Csaba Laszlo, who now looks likely to turn to him tomorrow.

“We have to replace Scobbie and have experienced in Paul Quinn and William,” said Csaba.

He confirmed there are no fresh injuries from the Brechin draw but long-term victims Lewis Toshney and Jordrie Briels remain out.

With the manager describing both as a “long, long” way from returning it’s now looking like it will be the new year at the earliest before they return to the squad.

Csaba does still have options available if he wants to make further changes to the side that’s started his first two league games in charge.

Paul McMullan impressed when coming on as a sub against both Falkirk and Brechin. As United search for three points to keep the pressure on leaders St Mirren, who host lowly Dumbarton tomorrow, he could be handed a start.

Meanwhile, United are poised to hand a trial to Burnley striker Jamie Thomas. The 20-year-old spent part of last season on loan at Ayr United.
