Benedictus setback

McGowan says victories show Dee can mix it up

The team on the pitch right now is a far cry from the side that lost to Hibs for the fifth defeat on the bounce.

McGowan insists they never lost their belief but is delighted all their hard work on the training ground is paying off. “It’s incredible,” he added. “You can tell the confidence in the team, going up to Ross County throughout my career has always been a hard game and Saturday was hard but I felt throughout we were dangerous on the counter-attack.

“They were passing side to side and we let them do it before pouncing, taking the ball and hurting them down the sides.

“The gameplan was spot on and it’s a happy place considering we’ve played unbelievably in games and got nothing. It’s starting to turn for us — you need that bit of luck as well.

“It’s great because we deserve it, the coaching staff, the fans, everyone behind the scenes — we’ve been working hard behind closed doors to rectify what’s been going wrong and you can see it working now.”

The job is now to keep it working, going into Friday night’s clash with the Dons.

McGowan added: “Aberdeen are a great side, no doubt.

“They’re always up there or round about the top of the table so we know how tough it is going to be but we’ll go into the game with confidence.

“If we play like we did at Ross County and the way we played against Rangers, we can beat anyone.” RAITH Rovers have been dealt a blow with the news that defender Kyle Benedictus has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation following a leg fracture.

The Kirkcaldy club’s skipper fractured his right fibula in a game against Ayr United in September and manager Barry Smith had been expecting him back by now but he is facing an extended spell on t he sidelines.

Smith said: “We had hoped Kyle would only be out f or six-to-eight weeks.

“However, things have moved back the way recently.

“He had worked really hard to be ready to return.
