All of each other’s right boxes

-

The two got chatting and pretty soon it became apparent they had a lot in common — both had two children, had been single for quite a while and were pretty content with their lives — and suddenly, there was a spark.

Shaun, a joiner for the council, asked Angela out and the first real date was at Byzantium, by Monikie, during which the couple hit it off and “just talked and talked”.

“Yes, I was a little cautious to start with,” said Angela.

“There’s a lot to consider when you’re a single parent and have been on your own for a few years.

“Are you too set in your ways, are your children going to get along with him, and am I going to get along with his children?

“But Shaun’s got such an easy-going nature, we have exactly the same sense of humour and we had so much in common, what with the children and everything.”

The bond between the two grew strong quickly and Shaun was a big hit with Angela’s children, Stephanie, 25, and Ronan, 18, while Angela was equally welcomed by Shaun’s daughters, Amy, 17 and Emily, 14.

Just a few months after they met, Shaun proposed.

“I said ‘Yes’,” said Angela. “He was ticking all the right boxes”. And Angela was ticking all the right boxes for Shaun, too.

“It was her gentle nature that struck me,” he said.

“She’s got such a kind heart and is a great role model for my daughters.”

In 2013, the families went on holiday to Florida and Shaun said this was where the wedding would take place. And now it has. In a stunning dress from Innate Bridals, Dundee, Angela was married in the idyllic surroundings of Paradise Cove, Orlando, with Shaun’s daughters as bridesmaids.

She was given away by Ronan, as her parents were unable to travel, and the best man was Shaun’s big brother, Jim. The loveliest surprise was the fact that, without telling a soul, Shaun’s mum, Mary, secretly booked a flight and just appeared at Paradise Cove for the wedding — and she is 78.

The day was captured by Ginger Midgett Photography of Florida.

The couple enjoyed 14 sun-kissed days before flying home to a huge celebration at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel.

More than 170 guests danced the night away at an exuberant party and now.

Congratulations to a cracking couple!
