Three out of three on cards for Dee

-

DunDee are flying, Aberdeen are sinking — is there a better time to lay the ghost of last season’s 7-0 to rest?

I’m sure I said something similar just a couple of weeks ago before the Rangers game and it’s amazing the similarilities between the two games.

That’s mainly of the Gers’ making with their seemingly endless search for a new manager coming back around to Derek McInnes — at least, that’s how it looks at the moment.

The Gers were coming to Dens on the back of a poor home defeat to Hamilton.

This week, the Dons have just been beaten twice on the bounce by caretaker Graeme Murty’s Ibrox side.

As my colleague Lee Wilkie pointed out yesterday, logical thinking by the Dundee players should have them eying up a win on Friday.

If the Dark Blues can see off Rangers and that same Gers team then goes and beats Aberdeen twice immediately afterwards, surely Dundee go in as the form team.

And that’s the big change from the Gers game — Neil McCann’s men are coming into this contest with their best two victories of the season at their backs.

The defence have been miserly in giving up chances and the attack have been finding the net — well, Mark O’Hara has been, with a bit of help from Faissal El Bakhtaoui.

What I liked about the Dark Blues on Saturday was the attacking threat they showed throughout the game.

Conceding soft goals has been an obvious flaw this season but the lack of punch up front has been a real problem.

The 3-4-3 setup Neil McCann went for on Saturday, which took everyone by surprise, having three men right up front in Roarie Deacon, Faissal El Bakhtaoui either side of Sofien Moussa meant they always had bodies high up the pitch and in the box.

It’s a risk but the Dark Blues managed that and really should have been home and dry by the hour mark in Dingwall.

Aberdeen, meanwhile, look lost and a shadow of the side that won 7-0 on their last Friday night trip to Dens Park.

They’re still a top side, however, so it’ll be tough for Dundee but if they keep up their form there’s no reason why it can’t be three wins from three.
