-

CELTIC look set to make a move for Dundee defender Jack Hendry in the January transfer window.

It is understood t he 22-year-old, signed on a two-year deal from English League One side Wigan Athletic in the summer, was present at the Hoops’ 1-0 Champions League defeat to Belgian side Anderlecht at Parkhead last night along with St Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is understood to be a great admirer of Hendry and has already expressed his impression of the centre-back.

F o l l o w i n g D u n d e e ’s narrow 1-0 defeat to the champions at Celtic Park in October, Rodgers said: “Dundee did well, I was impressed.

“They’ve got some good players, played their shape well at times and there’s some decent athletes in there that can get on the ball.

“Hendry at the back was excellent, he’s quick and strong.

“He’s a good size and Scotland need centrehalves — he’s tall, he can run and pass, so he looks a talent.

“I thought they were a good little side.”

English Premier League s i d e s C r y s t a l Pa l a c e , Newcastle United and Southampton are also said to be interested in securing Hendry’s services.

With a year-and-a-half left to run on his current deal at Dens Park, whoever wants him now will have to pay.

DUNDEE U/20s beat Ross County 4-1 i n Dingwall yesterday afternoon i n Development League action.
