Masked men raid OAP’s city house

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

Irene Strachan, 72, had £80 stolen from her purse and a Dell laptop taken during the teatime raid at her Turnberry Avenue home in Ardler.

The crooks — dressed in black — approached her door and pushed their way in.

Mrs Strachan’s grandson Kevin Rice, 23, said his gran initially thought it had been a prank before the men forced her back into the property demanding cash and drugs. He said: “My gran told me that two men came to the door dressed in black and wearing white ski masks.

“She thought it was me and my brother having a joke. They shoved her back into her house and closed the door and said they weren’t after my gran. They said they were there for the stash of drugs and money. My gran is 72 and has got nothing to do with drugs — she was stunned by what was going on.” The duo began searching property.

Kevin added: “They took her laptop and money out of her purse, about £80. They also took her mobile phone. “They were there for around 20 minutes. “During that time, my gran said one of the men had a cosh weapon that he threatened her with. “They said she needed to give up the drugs and the money.”

A cosh weapon is similar to a baton or a club. the

Kevin arrived at his gran’s house just after 6pm on Tuesday to find the police there after she had raised the alarm.

He added: “My gran has been left shaken by the incident. There were police, CID and forensics at the house.

“At this stage, we are assuming this has been a case of mistaken identity and they’ve targeted the wrong property.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed officers are investigating the incident, saying: “Two men wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered entered an elderly woman’s house and stole money and other items.

“Fortunately she was not hurt, but was left extremely shaken. We are looking to trace two men, described as both about 6ft in height, one slim and one of stocky build, and both spoke with local accents.

“We would ask anyone with any information which could assist us to phone 101 or speak to any police officer. Our reference is CR/31753/17.”

TWO men wearing ski masks forced their way into an OAP’s home and threatened her with a weapon during a terrifying raid.
