Hendry merits place in squad

-

ST JOHNSTONE head for Hamilton in the Ladbrokes Premiership tomorrow.

On medical advice, striker Steven MacLean, who has netted twice in his last two matches, will not play on Hamilton’s artificial surface.

Callum Hendry, son of former Scotland skipper Colin, did well when he came on as a substitute at home to Kilmarnock last Saturday, and is again in the squad.

Saints’ boss Tommy Wright said: “Callum has done really well and deserves to be in the squad again. I was very pleased with what he contributed when he came on against Kilmarnock.”

Richard Foster, Michael O’Halloran and Denny Johnstone, three of the four Saints who missed out against Killie due to being held up by a road accident, are also in the squad but the fourth player who was held up, Chris Millar, won’t travel to Hamilton.

Due to sickness, he had to come off in the midweek 2-0 Development League fixture away to Falkirk. He has not recovered so won’t play.

Full-backs Aaron Comrie and Brian Easton, who have been out long term, are still missing but may return quicker than expected.

It was thought they would be missing until the new year but they could be back sooner.

Tommy is happy at the way his Development League side are performing.

Many of the team are from l ast season’s U/17 side and the manager said: “They have had some great results against stronger outfits. Alec Cleland i s doing a fine job with them.”

Seven of the team which beat their Falkirk counterparts were teenagers who have come through the ranks.
