We welcome title chase says Stants

- BY CALUM WOODGER

DUNDEE United midfielder Sam Stanton has called on therestoftheChampionship to come and get them.

The Terrors currently top the table heading into the weekend’s fixtures and on-loan Hibs man Stanton insists he and his team-mates are not feeling the pressure of a tough winter schedule.

The Tangerines take on their closest rivals in Queen of the South, Livingston and St Mirren over the next two weeks.

And The 23-year-old says United are happy where they are and has told their challengers the chase is on.

“We want to be on top of the league for as long as we can, you always want to be top of the league,” Stanton said.

“You’d rather be the one getting chased than the one chasing, like St Mirren and Queen of the South.

“Livi are a good side as well, they’ve done really well this year.

“They’ve got two games in hand but we need to take each game as it comes.

“That’s what you need to do when you’re trying to win the league.”

United face Gary Naysmith’s Queens side at Palmerston Park tomorrow, with the Dumfries outfit on fire of late.

A Stephen Dobbie hat-trick helped them to a 5-2 away win over Dunfermline last Saturday and saw the Doonhamers rise to third in the league standings.

Stanton admits Dobbie will be handful for them to deal with but insists Queens should also be worried about the Terrors’ star men.

Stanton said: “They’ve been doing really well, they’re on a similar run to us in the last few games.

“It’ll be a good game, they’ve got a good side full of quality players everywhere on the park.

“It’ll be a tough game but we’re looking forward to it.

“Dobbie is a dangerous player, everyone in the league knows how good he can be on his day but we’ve got good players as well.

“We want them to be worried about us, too.”
