SAMMON RELIEVED TO BREAK HIS DUCK

-

CONOR Sammon admitted his first goal for Partick Thistle was a “huge” moment after he helped seal victory over Motherwell.

The on-loan Hearts striker scored Thistle’s third goal i n t he 28th minute and they held off a Motherwell comeback to record a 3-2 win and cut the gap at the bottom of the Premiership to one point on Dundee, whom they face at Dens Park tomorrow.

The former Kilmarnock striker was making his 15th appearance for the Jags and the well-taken goal was a major relief.

“It’s huge,” he said. “It’s huge for a striker. When you move to a new team you want to score goals, you want to score as soon as possible to really get that confidence again.

“So I am delighted to get it and really pleased to make a good contribution and, hopefully, that will be the first of many goals this season.”

Sammon’s and Miles Storey’s runs down the channels caused the ’Well defence major problems in the first half, with the latter winning the free-kick that led to Blair Spittal’s opener before setting up both Ryan Edwards and Sammon to score.

Sammon said: “Myself and Miles’ strengths, we love playing on the shoulder, we love playing in behind defences and putting teams under pressure and using our pace. It worked really well on Wednesday night.

“We feel we can do that in games.”
