Fire crews called out to tackle house blaze
FIRE crews battled a house fire in Tayside today.
Emergency crews were called to Friar Street in Perth just after 7am following reports of a blaze breaking out in a property.
Three fire appliances attended the incident and used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
Firefighters were seen bringing debris out of the house around 8.30am.
One resident, who lives nearby, described it as large fire.
He added: “The street was closed off while police and ambulances attended.
“There looked to be quite a lot of damage to the ground floor flat.
“The ground floor was pretty blackened.
“The police were outside and the firefighters were bringing stuff out that looked severely damaged.
“It must have been a pretty serious fire.
“Judging by the front door and looking through the living room window, there seemed to be a significant amount of damage.
“The emergency services had the road closed at the start of the incident but then they reopened it later.
“I could hear people rummaging through stuff inside the property — you would have thought that the damage inside was pretty significant.”
Although one fire crew was still in attendance at 8.30am, the blaze is said to have been extinguished by 7.40am.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said today: “Three fire appliances were called to Friar Street in Perth at 7.05am.
“Fire crews arrived at 7.10am and used one hose reel jet and a main jet to extinguish the fire.
“A total of 14 firefighters were at the scene.
“The fire was located in a block of flats on the ground floor.
“There is no indication about the cause of the fire at this stage.”
The spokeswoman said all crews left the scene around 9am. Police and ambulance crews also attended the incident.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We were notified about a fire in Friar Street, Perth, shortly after 7am by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“No one was injured, and according to the fire and rescue service the fire does not appear to be suspicious.” Police at the scene.
