Inspectors praise housing warden service

A HOUSING support service in Dundee has been praised by care bosses.

The city council’s sheltered housing warden service is registered to provide assistance to the local authority’s tenants and is based in Sinclair Street.

It is currently available to about 2,000 tenants in 36 sheltered housing complexes across Dundee.

The Care Inspectorate recently spoke to 33 tenants who use the service and said it should be “applauded” for its efforts to support residents.

A report by care bosses said: “The service had a very good level of care and support for its customers and management of its resources. We were impressed with the consistently good feedback, the real promotion of community and the quality of the wardens.”

The service was given grades of “very good” for its quality of care and its management.

The report added: “Overall, this was found to be a very good service which is why a grade of 5 — very good — has been given on this occasion for both management and care and support.

“This service got very high praise from all the tenants spoken with, which shows they provide a high-quality service.

“The wardens themselves should be applauded for their continued hard work and dedication.”

Some of the residents who commented said there were always lots of social activities, such as bingo, beauty therapy, dominoes and trips out, with one saying they felt they were a part of a “lovely wee community”.

The Care Inspectorate also noted there were clear and up-to-date support plans and very good promotion of a community spirit.

It said the wardens were well trained and, despite staff shortages, were managing to continue to provide a high-quality service.
