Keep it safe for shoppers

-

I KNOW I will be only one of many people complaining about the lack of gritters in Dundee, the only difference is I live in the city centre.

At this time of year there are so many people coming into Dundee to shop and the very least they should be able to expect is the pavements are safe to walk on.

If we want to attract visitors to Dundee every one of our councillors should be pushing to make sure shoppers are safe.

Unlike the lady who was answering the phone last Friday at the council offices who said not to worry as the temperature was on the up and the streets would thaw by Tuesday.

Not impressed.

CAN Dundee City Council please tell me when the pavements in Loraine Road and Rennell Road will be gritted?

I have witnessed the disabled and mums with prams walking on the road because the pavements are like an ice rink.

Has someone to be killed or injured before we see a drop of salt?

Also can we in the area expect a reduction in our council tax because we are paying for a service yet the sanding of streets is not being delivered?

Slippy feet.

A BIG thank you to the couple who found my wife when she fell and banged her head on an ice-covered pavement at the corner of Macalpine Road and Camperdown Road on Friday evening.

She is now recovering in Ninewells Hospital.

David Ash.

I WRITE in response to “Happy driver” who wrote in with nothing but praise for the roads department in relation to the gritting that Dundee City Council is carrying out.

As a delivery driver for a takeaway in Dundee, I have to say the gritters aren’t doing the job they have been tasked with.

Any side street or housing area in Dundee has not been gritted and is like sheet ice.

Delivery drivers dice with death on a nightly basis.

We pay our road tax and the least the roads department could do is the work they have been asked to carry out.

Angry driver.
