Kindness of strangers

Residents in Arbroath have reported being handed generous gifts and cash donations by members of the Big Light Group.

Jamielee Macready, 25, from Arbroath, was shopping in Morrisons at the weekend when she was approached at a checkout and handed a Christmas card containing £20.

Jamielee said: “A really pretty woman and her daughter approached me. She handed me an envelope and asked me to take it.

“Inside was a beautiful Christmas card with £20.”

She told the Tele that she tried to hand it back but the woman refused to take it and explained what they were doing.

The message inside the card read: “Please enjoy this random act of kindness.

Another recipient of the Big Light Group’s kindness was Shona Gowans, from Arbroath, who also received £20.

She said it was “lovely surprise” and it was great to see smiles on so many people’s faces.

Shona was paying at the checkout when a woman tapped her on the shoulder and handed her a card.

A member of the Big Light Group told the Tele: “We give out about 40 envelopes to local shoppers every Christmas and always come away feeling better for it.

“Any attention should be given to the recipients of our acts of kindness.”

The group has also given £100 to a cancer patient, £50 to St Andrew’s Parish Church in Arbroath and £60 to the local foodbank.

Members have also organised a special weighted blanket for a boy with autism and donated £50 to the Cats Protection group.

Meanwhile, £150 is to be given to a child who has a brain tumour.

A GROUP of well-wishers has been surprising strangers with random acts of kindness in the run-up to Christmas.

Jamielee Macready and partner James duncan, 26, with baby grace, 12 weeks, were surprised to receive a Christmas card containing £20.
