-

GROVE Menzieshill men’s hockey team maintained their 100% record with wins over Dundee Wanderers and Edinburgh University in the National Indoor League at Perth’s Bell’s Sports Centre.

Gavin Byers, Albert Rowling and Ross McPherson did the damage in the first half against Edinburgh to lead 3-1.

There was only one goal in the second half, scored by Menzieshill’s Cameron Golden.

The damage against Wanderers was done in the first half as McPherson, Ben Cromar and Byers all scored without reply.

Wanderers did get in on the act after half-time with two goals by Fergus Sandison but they were countered by two from Golden.

It was not a good day for Wanderers, who also lost to Hillhead and Inverleith.

Jack Fullerton scored Wanderers’ only first-half goal against two by Hillhead but they found themselves 4-1 down shortly after the restart.

A penalty by Sandison brought Wanderers back into contention but Hillhead countered to maintain their threegoal advantage.

A late goal by Bobby Ralph didn’t affect the final outcome.

Wanderers again trailed in the first half against Inverleith with a single goal by Fullerton to two by Inverleith.

Inverleith increased their advantage to 4-1 before Sandison pulled one back. A goal apiece from Sandison and Callum Ross saw Wanderers tie the score at 4-4.

The Edinburgh side recovered to score two more for a 6-4 win.

Kelburne added two wins to be three points behind Menzieshill with Wanderers fifth. The third series of league matches will be on January 6.

The Division Two teams have now played each other twice and will split into two pools beginning on January 13.

Menzieshill II have won all seven matches, scoring nine against Carnegie and Watsonians.

Menzieshill began to pull away from Carnegie by the end of the first quarter and had a 6-2 lead at the interval. The victory was never in doubt although Carnegie did manage to reduce the arrears to three.

Jamie Golden notched a hat-trick and Olly James and Andrew Suttie scored two each with Paul Martin and Dave Petrie getting the other two for their 9-6 win.

Menzieshill Watsonians 9-5.

John Stephen, Hamish Rice, James and Petrie all scored twice with Suttie netting once. II beat

Wanderers II managed a draw against Watsonians but lost to Uddingston to finish this first phase in fifth place. A goal by Rory Taylor against Watsonians kept Wanderers in the game at 2-1 down.

Bruce Rowan equalised but Watsonians again took the lead from a penalty. Taylor netted the leveller, also from a penalty, and this time it was Wanderers who took the lead through Paul Dailly. They could not hold on and Watsonians drew level for 4-4.

Uddingston had a 3-0 interval lead over Wanderers. Rowan and Taylor brought Wanderers to within a goal but Uddingston then led 6-2.

Goals by Rowan and Gregor Pearson brought Wanderers back to 6-4 but there was still time for Uddingston to sneak a seventh.

Perthshire had two fine Division Three wins over Granite City Wanderers and Harris.

Adam Czub led the way with a hat-trick in both matches. His contributions are valuable in Perthshire’s improvement.

Neil Robertson, Lewis Pyke, Alex Wilson and Michael Berry also netted.

Menzieshill III had two wins and a draw.

The next series of Division Three is on January 13. Next Regional games for Wanderers III are on January 6.
