Time for change says boss Dick
ARBROATH manager Dick Campbell, the most experienced team boss in Scottish football, said it’s time we ditched winter football.
Speaking l ast night at P e r t h ’s S e v e n A c r e s complex where the Red Lichties train, Dick said: “I’m in favour of a winter shutdown.
“It’s ridiculous footballers are asked to play through Christmas and the new year, particularly part-time players.
“Players and supporters are being asked to compete and spectate in freezing temperatures.
“I feel we really need to change.
“Playing from March to November i s a far more realistic prospect and it’s something I am very much in favour of.”
A r b r o a t h ’s last t wo games, away t o Albion Rovers and Alloa Athletic, have both been postponed due to unplayable pitches.
This Saturday, Arbroath are at home to Raith Rovers in League One.
The Red Lichties will have their pitch covered to give the game every chance of taking place. “We are desperate to play,” Dick added.
Meanwhile, Steven Doris has come through his knee operation and is starting on the road to recovery. He is unlikely to play again this season.
Former Dundee player Josh Skelly is three weeks away from returning.
Gavin Swankie, Colin Hamilton, Thomas O’Brien, Danny Denholm, Scott Martin and Jamie Henry are fit again.
