Csaba to rethink transfer options

-

THE l oss of i nfluential midfielder Fraser Fyvie has forced Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo to shuffle his transfer priorities when the window opens on Monday.

Just last weekend, Csaba revealed another central striker would be his No 1 signing target.

But with Fyvie j oining fellow deep-lying midfielder Jordie Briels on the longterm casualty list, he’s now on the lookout for a player in that area of the pitch.

A scan has confirmed former Scotland U/21 star Fyvie is out for the rest of the season because of knee ligament damage suffered against Livingston l ast weekend.

And the gaffer did not hide his devastation over the news.

“Fyvie has been a very good player for us, back to what he was when he went to England as a young player,” said Csaba.

“This is a big loss for us and him but I have spoken to him and we will look after him. He is determined and he will come back.

“At the moment it means I must look at players for this area but in January it will not be easy to get his quality.”

Despite this latest setback, Csaba has stressed to his team their focus has to remain firmly on promotion.

Victory in tonight’s top-ofthe-league clash at St Mirren would represent a big step in the right direction.

“We must not l et this distract us and it should not,” he said.

“We have an important game, although I tell you I do not see it as more difficult t han t he other games because every team in the league can beat you if you do not play well.”

Csaba confirmed skipper Willo Flood will start the game and take over i n midfield from Fyvie.

Defender Stewart Murdoch has been making good progress as he recovers from a hip problem.

He could be fit enough to make the bench tonight but may be held back for Tuesday’s New Year clash with basement club Brechin at Tannadice.
