Thanks all round as charity efforts help to cheer up Tayside’s sick kids

-

STAFF from the Tayside Children’s Hospital in Dundee have thanked Fiona Martin, who set up the charity Sunshine Box, for all her hard work.

Fiona set up the charity in 2016 with her daughter and youngest son, with staff from the children’s hospital helping to choose the charity’s name.

The Sunshine Box supplies toys, books and games to Tayside Children’s Hospital at Ninewells and the children’s unit at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Presenting Fiona with flowers, senior charge nurse Suzie Byer said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to Fiona and her family for all their hard work.

“We really appreciate it, as do the children.”

Fiona said: “When we set up the charity, we had no idea how successful it would become.

“We provide toys, books and games to hospitals across Tayside, one school and two ambulances.

“We raise funds throughout the year and we have a lot of support from the local community.

“Through their help, we have been able to purchase iPads for wards 29 and 30 and we refill the Sunshine boxes every three weeks. We have sensory boxes, and the Neonatal Unit has a siblings box.

“The labour suite and neonatal unit also received knitted items and there were also seasonal treats for children who were in hospital over the holidays.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all everyone for their support. Without you, the charity wouldn’t be such a success.”

If you’d like to help the work of Sunshine Box, you can donate in a number of ways.
